Post-Operative Instructions for New Partial or Complete Dentures

**Adjustment Period for New Dentures**

New dentures necessitate a period of adjustment. First-time denture patients may require several weeks to acclimate to their new appliance. Speech may be altered, necessitating adaptations of the tongue and lips.

**Initial Care**

For the initial few days, wear your dentures for extended periods and chew soft food in small bites. Dentures lack the same chewing efficiency as natural teeth, potentially impacting your taste perception. If an uneven bite persists after several days, we can adjust the contact points during subsequent visits

**Sore Spots and Adjustments**

Isolated sore spots are common in the mouth and can be easily alleviated during follow-up appointments. However, severe sore spots that hinder denture wear should be reported to an appointment. Prior to the appointment, wear the denture for 24 hours to pinpoint the exact location, facilitating more precise and predictable adjustments.

**Denture Cleaning**

Proper denture cleaning is crucial to prevent the accumulation of stains and bacteria. Customized cleaning procedures are provided during the insertion appointment.

**Nighttime Use**

Complete or partial dentures should not be worn to bed. This allows the gum tissues and jawbone to rest, preventing further irritation, infection, and potential bone shrinkage.

**Oral Changes and Relining**

Over time, or due to weight changes, the supporting gum tissues and bone may alter their shape and size. Periodic relining may be necessary to maintain a secure fit. Denture teeth may wear or chip over time, necessitating annual examinations of the tissues and dentures.

**Mandatory Follow-Ups**

Regular follow-ups are mandatory. Please schedule a check-up within 72 hours of treatment completion.
