Post-Operative Instructions Following Surgical Extraction

**Post-operative Care:**

**Bleeding Control:**

Firmly bite on the gauze pads covering each extraction site for 30 minutes to control bleeding.
– If necessary, we will change the gauze pads before your departure. You may change the gauze pads once more at  home, leaving gauze in for an additional 30 minutes. Remember to remove the gauze before eating or drinking.

**Numbness:**

– You may experience numbness in your lips, cheeks, or tongue, which is a temporary sensation that will resolve within 2 to 6 hours. Please refrain from biting your affected areas.

**Swelling Reduction:**

– Apply ice packs to the surgical area for 20-30 minutes at a time, applying gentle pressure near the extraction site, to reduce swelling for the first 1-2 hours after surgery. Ice should not be used after the first 24 hours.

**Pain Management:**

– Take the pain medications prescribed as soon as possible.

Refrain from rinsing or spitting on the day of surgery, as this may prolong bleeding. Avoid touching or disturbing the wound area on the day of surgery, as it may initiate bleeding and prolong the need for gauze pads.

**Dietary Restrictions:**

Do not consume hot food or hot beverages for 24 hours. Use a spoon to eat food.

Refrain from using a straw for taking liquids for 1 week.

Do not apply hot packs to the extraction site externally or internally.

Refrain from moving your jaw excessively for 1 week. Minimal mouth opening is essential

– Prioritize rest.

**Rinsing Instructions:**

– Begin rinsing with salt in lukewarm water regularly 24 hours after the procedure.

**Smoking Cessation:**

**Dietary Recommendations:**
